Out of Town NewsLocation: Harvard Square Our thoughts: Located right smack in the middle of Harvard Square, Out of Town News is probably the most comprehensive newsstand in the Boston area. (A close second is Nini's Corner, located right across the street.) Just about any foreign or domestic newspaper or magazine that you're looking for has a better chance of being in stock here than it does anywhere else. Magazines are spread throughout the inside of the building, with even more outside, to the left and right of the entrance. They've also got maps, snacks, postcards and various touristy gift items. There was talk late in 2008 of Out of Town shutting down because of slowing sales of newspapers and magazines. After the lease of current owner Hudson News runs out, it might be taken over by another newsstand operator. Out of Town's building used to be the entrance to the Harvard Square T station. Following the extension of the Red Line to Alewife in the 1980s, the T entrance was moved to a new structure a few feet away, and the old entrance became the newsstand. Tip: At night, musicians often perform outdoors at The Pit, right next to Out of Town News.
