Harvard Yard is the centerpiece of Harvard's historic campus, with plenty of grass, trees and old buildings. There's plenty of pedestrian traffic as students and professors crisscross the Yard to get to or from class or dorm, as well as many non-Harvard people taking a shortcut from Harvard Square to various destinations. Unfortunately, it's also a hub for tourists, as busload after busload of visitors walks over to the John Harvard statue and to the steps of Widener Library. A few years back, I got to see some dumb protest that students were holding here, camping out night and day in the Yard to push their wacky cause. Tip: Be careful not to trip, some of the sidewalks and walkways are uneven. If you do trip, flag down one of the passing Harvard Law students.
