Holiday Inn Family Suites Resort (Orlando)Location: 14500 Continental Gateway, Lake Buena Vista Our thoughts: This all-suites hotel features several kinds of smallish suites to meet your needs, and they've got a full set of amenities on site: restaurant, convenience store, gift shop, tiny video arcade, multiple pools, exercise room, Interweb access terminal and mail room. A buffet breakfast was included, and it was just OK, not great. Turn on the TV, and the default channel shows an endlessly looping video of a puppet explaining who needs to wear swim pants in the pool, along with other essential hotel information. When we went, the huge complex featured a kid-friendly railroad theme throughout, with all kinds of train-related stuff in the lobby. There was even a pseudo-train (no tracks) that gave kids a ride around the whole complex, while making enough noise to annoy everyone else. The trains are probably all gone now, though, as they were planning to redo the whole place with a Nickelodeon theme instead. Bring on Jimmy Neutron! If you're going to any of the Disney parks, you can't beat the location without going on property, as it's just east of Disney's main entrance. Two stays here (2001 and 2003) yielded very different results. The first time, no complaints about the rooms, and the service was friendly. The second time, there was a long wait just to check in with the unfriendly desk clerk, spotty housekeeping service, and one of the stairwells reeked of marijuana smoke. A letter to the management complaining of these and other problems went unanswered.
