Popeye & Bluto's Bilge Rat Barges (Orlando)Location: Toon Lagoon, Universal Islands of Adventure Our thoughts: This ride had large, round rafts that seat eight people and float along rapids through a Popeye storyline designed to get the riders as wet as possible. The boat's sort of a roulette wheel, randomly selecting who, if anyone, is going to get wet as the boat goes through several potential sources of extreme moisture. The fun part is laughing at the other passengers as they get drenched. There are several places along the way where huge amounts of water can pour through the sides of the boat, plus places where it's pouring down from the sides or above, and even a few places where passers-by in Toon Lagoon can shoot water at you. The lame thing was that some of the other passengers were wearing waterproof ponchos (even on a hot July day). If you're on an actual whitewater raft, outside of the controlled environment of a theme park, with actual real-life dangers, including hypothermia, sure, of course you're gonna do that. But getting wet is half the fun here, so lose those ponchos. Tip: Go early in the day when there are no lines and ride this one over and over. Once you're wet, you can't get much wetter.
