Islands of Adventure First Aid Station (Orlando)Location: Universal Islands of Adventure Our thoughts: True story. While eating at the Mythos restaurant, a family of four sat next to our table. At some point, one of the kids dropped a glass on the floor, and it shattered right next to me. Some of the glass ended up in my shoe, and since I wasn't wearing socks (because they were wet from the Popeye ride and were drying in the locker), the glass cut me on the back of my ankle. Right near the Achilles tendon, which can be pretty bad (just ask Nomar). Slightly bleeding, we paid our bill and wondered whether I should find a first aid station. We asked several attendants at the park where the first aid station was, and eventually we found the location. It's hidden near the front entrance, but it's hidden pretty well, so you may have to ask a few people before you get there. Luckily, the first aid station was not like a typical emergency room, so we were able to see the "doctor" relatively quickly. We put "doctor" in quotes because there was no way that we could tell whether the guy who looked at my foot actually had any medical training. He could have been working in the Dr. Seuss Landing area for all we know. Anyway, Dr. Jim looks at my foot and decides that he's going to perform surgery on the foot. He goes and gets a needle, sterilizes it and proceeds to try and wedge the piece of glass out of my foot as if it were a wood splinter. All of this without any anesthesia. A few skin scrapes later, I'm in enough pain where I just say, "OK, I think you got it." Dr. Jim gives me a Band-Aid and we're out of there quickly. It's hard to tell whether I actually did have glass in the foot, but at least now I can play shortstop for the Cubs again. Tip: Ask the attendants if anyone ever walked in complaining, "I fell off the Hulk."
