Rock 'n Roller Coaster Starring Aerosmith (Orlando)

More Orlando Rides

Location: Disney-MGM Studios

Our thoughts: The Rock 'n Roller Coaster is located right near the Twilight Zone Tower of Terror, making this area of the Disney-MGM Studios the best part of the park. If you get there early enough in the day, you can go back and forth between these two rides until your head hurts.

The 'theme' of the ride is that you are visiting a recording session by the band Aerosmith. You get to watch a short film of the band, then their manager comes in and says that they are running late for the concert. Being such good sports, the band invites you (the person waiting in line) to come along to the show with them. But oh, no! The interstate is jammed with traffic! What will you do?

Fortunately, Aerosmith has an answer — they will give you a "limo ride" to the show. The limo, of course, being the roller coaster that you will soon get in. You then enter the loading area to get into the coaster.

The best part about this ride is the start. After you get loaded, you turn a small corner and then come to a complete stop while you wait for the "interstate to clear." Then there's a countdown where Steven Tyler shouts into the speakers in your coaster car, and the car rockets from 0 to 60 in about three seconds to begin the ride. You immediately then plunge into darkness, go through a few loops and the ride is underway. OUTSTANDING intensity. If you want a good photo of yourself on this ride, look to the right when you are accelerating and the flash goes off right before you plunge into the dark.

The rest of the ride is tame by comparison, although it has a few more loops and excitement. The ride lasts three minutes, 12 seconds, about the length of time of 'Sweet Emotion,' which plays in the speakers while you ride. Not that you'll have time to enjoy it or even hear the song, since you'll be screaming your lungs out during the ride.

We enjoyed this ride more than the 'Hulk' ride at Universal, mainly because of the accelerated start and the fact that the ride is indoors and in darkness. The 'Hulk' does a similar acceleration, but you're already moving up the incline when that starts. The feeling of going from 0 to 60 mph in under 3 seconds is intense.

Tip: Look for the signs that say "Tacos" and "Doughnuts" in the middle of the ride.
