The Amazing Spiderman Ride (Orlando)

More Orlando Rides

Location: Marvel Super Hero Island, Universal Islands of Adventure

Our thoughts: The Spiderman attraction is a ride that combines a moving car and one of those 3-D simulators that make you feel like you are flying when you're actually not. The combination works so well that you will want to go on this several times in order to see all of the different effects and actions that take place.

The basics of the story — you are a reporter for the Daily Bugle, and J. Jonah Jameson sends you out in one of his "scoop" vehicles to try and get some photos of Spider-man villains who have taken over the city. These villains include Green Goblin and Doctor Octopus, so you know that Spider-man will eventually show up as well.

The ride gives you the sensation of being spun around, having flaming pumpkins thrown at you and you also get wet when one of the water villains explodes. You also get shot with an "anti-gravity" ray that gives you the sensation of flying and falling (luckily Spider-man is your friend and helps you out).

This is one of the most popular rides at the Islands of Adventure, so be prepared to wait in line a long time. However, we have several tips that can help you maximize the number of times you can get into this ride.

First, try to get as many "fast passes" as you can get, which helps you jump in the front of the line. These are limited, so you can only utilize this strategy a few times.

Second, jump into the single rider line. This line is considerably shorter — whenever there is an extra space in the "scoop" vehicle, the ride operators will fill the extra space with someone from the single rider line. Each vehicle has three rows that sits four people (12 people per car), which means that any time there is a group of three people, there will be an extra space. Furthermore, there are some times when only two people will get in a row, which means two extra spaces for people in the single rider line. Be as nice as possible to the ride operators and you should be able to get in quicker.

Third, when you get off the ride and want to ride again, try to sneak into the single-rider line before you even exit the building (sometimes they monitor this, sometimes they don't).

Fourth, ride the ride as soon as possible, by mid-morning through closing time the lines get really, really long.

Tip: Remember to wear your 3-D glasses, the ride is much better with them.
