Our thoughts: When I was 8, my family went to the Magic Kingdom and we rode lots of kids rides. Finally, we arrived in Tomorrowland with our E tickets in hand (back before the days of one admission price for all rides) and my brother and I headed for Space Mountain. After waiting in line, seeing all of the different pictures of planets and galaxies, my nerve started to go away. They had a place in line where you could "chicken out," and I bailed, waiting for my brother, mother and father to finish the ride while I waited in the "chicken area" with my grandmother.

Since then I've gotten more courage to ride roller coasters, and have since ridden Space Mountain several times. What was I thinking when I was 8?

Space Mountain is an indoor roller coaster where you ride completely in the dark (if you are brave enough to look up you might see some "shooting stars" go by every once in a while). There are no loops on the ride, but lots of dips, turns and thrills. There's something about riding a roller coaster in the dark, not knowing exactly when the turn is going to occur. After a few seconds on the ride your eyes eventually adjust and you can sort of see, but it's still pretty thrilling.

Disney has since made a better indoor roller coaster (The Rock 'n' Roller Coaster with Aerosmith), but if you are in the Magic Kingdom this isn't to be missed. And if you have any 8-year-olds with you, tell them it's not so scary so they won't chicken out.

Tip: If you ride early in the day you should be able to ride a second time without another long wait.
