Location: 1540 Broadway (between 45th and 46th)

Our thoughts: This is a three-level store that includes a huge selection of music, movies (DVDs and VHS), and a decent selection of computer and video games and books.

The store seems to be hit-or-miss. Sometimes the store is great, other times it's like they're about to close down because of a lack of inventory (especially in the books and games area). If your normal (book, music or movie) store doesn't have an item that you're looking for (such as a Broadway music CD or British television series DVD), this should be the first place to look if you're in New York. If you're looking for the latest Ashlee Simpson album, you could get it here too, but why would you want to?

The store also hosts lots of celebrity signings, seeing as the store is located across the street from the MTV studios (where they film 'TRL'). We've been fortunate that we've never been in the store when one of these were occurring.

If you want to listen to an album without buying it, the store has lots of listening stations where you can hear the latest CDs.

Tip: Avoid the bathrooms; they're pretty disgusting.
