Our thoughts: Manhattan is one big island, and trying to "see it all" in a short amount of time is impossible. Hop on a sightseeing bus and you can hit a lot of the major uptown and downtown attractions in a day. We rode and liked the Gray Line double-decker bus when we took on an "all loops" tour of the city. In several hours, we hit the major sites from South Street Seaport to Harlem. Your tour guide gives you the lowdown on all the major attractions, and your trip could vary depending on the quality of your guide. Gray Line also gives you a "hop-on/hop-off" ability, so you can roam around on your own in areas of interest and grab the next bus when it comes through. One warning: Even though we were told the buses come by every 20 minutes or so, that seemed to be an exaggeration and we had to wait a while for another bus. Not super fun in the winter, a time when the open-air top level of the bus is also a must-miss.Tip: Watch your back around the Port Authority.
