Tournament of Kings (Las Vegas)Location: Excalibur Hotel, Las Vegas Our thoughts: The Tournament of Kings is a dinner show with a medieval tournament accompanied by a bland chicken dinner. At one point this must have been a hot attraction, as there are many seats set up in an oval setting. When we went, the 'stadium' was about half empty, which meant that only certain seating areas were filled up with people. First, the dinner. It's basically a chicken dinner with assorted side dishes, and they don't give you any silverware (remember, this is the Middle Ages), so you have to tear the meat off with your fingers. Luckily there are plenty of napkins, although it would have been nice to have a fork (maybe you can request one, but we didn't ask). The better part of the evening was the show, which includes actual jousting from the 'knights,' some acrobats doing human pyramids and other stunts, and some special effects from Merlin and a fire-breathing dragon. In the jousting portion, each section is assigned to cheer for their 'knight' in the jousting portion, and most of the people sitting in our section were lame and decided not to cheer very loudly (they were probably still working on the chicken). When you're being seated, ask to sit in a section with lots of energetic (or drunk) people. At $47.50 a ticket, this is a bit expensive in terms of dinner, but I guess when you add in the 'show' aspect it's an OK price (for Vegas, at least). I think we would have had more fun with a full stadium of people. Tip: Don't call your waitress a 'serving wench.' They don't think it's as funny as you do.
