Taste test: This snack is billed as an alternative to peanuts that tastes as good and is healthier for you.

It seems like a good idea, but unfortunately, the soy nuts just didn't taste very good. They look similar to honey-roasted peanuts, with a white sugary powder visible on the nuts and in the bag. The sugar adds just the slightest amount of sweetness when you first bite in, but mostly you taste the soy nut, which is just a bland, kind of burnt sort of taste, not very good. Definitely inferior to the taste of a peanut, though slightly cruchier. Most of the nuts in the bag were in individual pieces, but some of the nuts had stuck together into clusters. The clustered nuts (including two large clusters than included at least seven nuts each) were actually much sweeter and tastier than the individual ones. This was because each cluster had a whole lot of sugar holding the nuts together, and that sugar was almost sufficient to cover up the taste of the soy nuts. However, the unclustered nuts made up about 85% of the bag.

Smell test: Smells like the jar of soybean butter that I got at Trader Joe's (which I liked the taste of).

From the package: “The 'Nut That's Not a Peanut' tastes great (and we've got the badge to prove it pardner!) and is great for you! More of the good stuff and less of the bad stuff ... Peanotz® Roasted Snackz combines amazing taste with all the benefits of soy.” ... “*This could just be marketing hype, but we really believe it!”
