StarKist Bold Creations Microwavables Tuna Spicy Rice & Beans
Snack Review

StarKist Bold Creations Microwavables Tuna Spicy Rice & Beans

Taste test: I learned three things from my first two tuna-based StarKist Microwavables, Latin Citrus and Tomato Basil: 1) Unlike most of StarKist's regular (non-microwavable) tuna packets, they were made from much more stuff than just tuna and some spices. 2) They were really good. 3) Microwaving isn't even necessary.

That was enough that I jumped at the chance to eat a third one. This one had a nice look, with lots of whole beans and some occasional colorful bits of veggies, with shreds of tuna sort of holding it all together. There was a lot of overlap of ingredients with StarKist's Premium Tuna with Rice & Beans, which was not marketed as being microwaveable. The stuff inside didn't look quite like the picture on the front, but it didn't look mushy either. I bit in to find a nice mild kick of heat along with the tastes of the beans, rice, tuna and everything else. The heat grew hotter in the aftertaste. It was good, but the flavors didn't jump out as much as the first two Microwavables.

Smell test: Very zesty, can definitely smell the hot sauce and some beans, with a hint of tuna in there too.

From the package: “Wild Tuna, Brown Rice, Black Beans, Corn, Hot Sauce, Cilantro & Lime Juice” ... “Product of Thailand” ... “Hot sauce and lime juice join our Rice & Beans Tuna for a fiesta of flavor — inspired by one of Mexico's most beloved recipes.”
