Taste test: It took years, but competitors are now lining up to take on the excellent Brownie Brittle, this latest one being Hostess. Recent imitators included Brownie Crisps from Trader Joe's and Dessert Thins from the Pretzel Crisps folks.
I opened the zipper-reclosable bag (which unfortunately required a scissor to really get open) to find somewhat thin, rectangular pieces, many of them broken into smaller bits, with one smooth side and one rough side. The huge chocolate chips, shown in the picture on the bag as jutting out of every piece, were largely absent. Most pieces had no sign of such chips, while others had indentations shaped like the chips, but the actual chips had gone missing.
I poured myself some cold milk and crunched in to find a soft crunch with very nice crispness and lots of rich chocolate. The crunch had a bit of a snap than Brownie Brittle, and the texture worked really well. There were large chocolate chips inside some of the pieces (though in smaller numbers that the picture would have us expect), adding a nice soft feel and creamy milk chocolate taste.
I liked it enough that I kept going back to the bag for more, and in the process of eating my way through the smaller pieces and crumbs at the bottom of the bag, those missing chips materialized as basically individually chips, with some of the brownie material attached in most cases. Strange that they all fell off of the brownie pieces!
