Taste test: I almost didn't buy this bag, because on first glance, it wasn't obvious how it differed from the regular Trader Joe's corn chips. But I'm glad I took a second look, as it turned out there was a major, major difference — and a great one!

The underlying chips followed the general Fritos-like corn chip model, but there was some special Mexican Street Corn flavoring that made these a real standout. They had irregular shapes, generally scoop-like, with a Fritos-like yellow color, and the Street Corn flavor came in the form of a heavy smattering of seasoning powder, much of it black.

I crunched in to find a great crisp, light, crunchy feel and an initial taste that seemed ranch-like, transitioning into a mix of spices dominated by black pepper. Some heat arrived for the aftertaste, and the mix of flavors did remind me of Mexican street corn. The whole experience was just great, don't miss out on this one!

Smell test: Some nice savory spices, fairly mild, in addition to the usual corn chips smell.

From the package: “Trader Joe's Organic Elote Corn Chip Dippers have the delectable flavor of Mexican street corn in a crispy snack. With a hint of chipotle and kick of smoky heat, these chips have loads of flavor on their own, while pairing well with your favorite salsa or dips. Melt cheese over them for a punchy nacho, plunge into guacamole, crumble atop scrambled eggs … Delicioso!” ... “Actual street corn not included. (That said, we recommend eating the real stuff, too.)”
