Slim Jim Fire Fries Inferno
Taste test: This was one of those very weird branding things, as everyone knows that Slim Jims are a meat snack, but now they're using the brand for hot fries made from potato. Why? Who knows.
The fries had a square profile with hollow centers, fairly narrow as bagged fries go, with lots of intense red seasoning on the exteriors. That red was a sharp contrast to the light yellow underlying potato stick, which wasn't visible in many places but could be seen at the ends of some broken pieces.
I crunched in to find a crisp, loud crunch and a nice kick of intense hot peppers, with that crunch being a real differentiator vs. most of the fries of this type. The ones made from corn (or a combination of grains including corn) generally have a crumblier crunch than these and stick to the teeth. I like that type of crunch, but I liked this one even better. Most other potato-based fries have the good crispness but a softer crunch than these. I liked the flavor too — not killer hot, but not for the weak of heart either, it had a really nice tasty kick. They were good enough that I'll excuse the use of the Slim Jim name for something that obviously isn't a Slim Jim.
