Taste test: These puffs had shapes similar to many cheese puffs, but they were thinner than the standard Jax Curls or Cheetos Puffs. They had different shades of orange in various areas, mostly light, dark in places, but not the bright orange that's typical of cheese puffs.
I crunched in to find an unexpected texture — a fairly solid crunch, much different from any similarly shaped puffs we've found. With it came a tangy, hot and sweet barbecue flavor. But that wasn't all — amid the heat and tanginess, there was an unexpected taste too, a fishy taste. As in, like fish. So the flavor went from pretty good initially to fishy-bad. (I checked the ingredients. No fish.)
I shared the rest of the bag around and asked people if they noticed any unexpected taste (without mentioning the word "fish"). Most people thought the flavor was OK. A few did complain about the taste being in the terrible-to-horrible range. One noticed a hot dog taste. Another (really this was, unprompted) did notice the fish!
Unfortunately (or fortunately), the bag was filled just under halfway.
