Taste test: For years, Herr's sold a Heinz-branded ketchup chip, but apparently the two Pennsylvania companies aren't quite so close anymore, so now it's a just a Herr's ketchup-flavored chip, not associated with any particular ketchup company.
I opened the bag to find that the chips looked a whole lot like the Heinz version, with wide ripples and a lot of bright red seasoning applied unevenly from chip to chip and within each chip (quite different from the perfectly even seasoning pictured on the bag), with the red contrasting strongly with the underlying light yellow chip.
I crunched in to find a light, crisp crunch, with a ketchup flavor that was surprisingly subtle considering how much red stuff there was. It did not do a great job of duplicating a French fry dipped in ketchup — much the same as the Heinz version. There are many more ketchupy chips out there.
