Taste test: Since this was the second flavor from Cape Cod's new Thins line of potato chips that we reviewed, there was less mystery surrounding it than the initial one, Smokey Barbecue. But it turned out that there was still major element of surprise in this bag.
As with the other kind, Cape Cod made a big change from their famous kettle-cooked potato chips and delivered ordinary potato chips. The chips had curvy but generally not wiggly shapes, with a pale yellow color and some dark areas of skin on the edges. The texture and taste were good, with a light crunch and a good potato taste, quite different from Cape Cod's usual chips. Aside from the surprise (which I'll get to soon), they reminded me a lot of Utz potato chips.
The surprise was the amount of salt. I didn't notice it on every chip, but many of the chips jumped out as being quite extremely salty, certainly enough to stand out from most potato chips. Not as salty as Unique's Extra Salt pretzels, but still quite salty.
Smell test: Nice strong, rich potato smell.
From the package: “A premium thin chip experience made with Non-GMO ingredients and no preservatives or artificial flavors!” ... “Why are Thins so great???? It starts with the potato. Brian is a 5th generation farmer that takes pride in providing Cape Cod® with the perfect potatoes – delivering the robust potato flavor and the perfect crunch all in a thin chip. Not every potato can stand up to that pressure.”
