Taste test: This version of Jax posed quite a challenge for our Jax-loving Cheese Puff Wizard, as the original Jax set a high standard for cheesiness and great texture, while "multigrain" varieties of some snacks tend not to be particularly tasty. These appeared to be "multigrain" by virtue of including not just corn but also rice, but there probably wasn't a whole lot of rice, as it was the very last ingredients listed. We opened the bag to find that these were thinner than the original Jax, as well as less bright in their intensity of orange. They also had somewhat irregular edges, versus the usual perfect curves.
We crunched in to find that they weren't as soft as Jax, with a bit more of a pronounced crunch, and they also had less cheese. But there was certainly nothing wrong with them, and they tasted very good — just not as cheesy as their original counterparts.
Smell test: Good cheese smell, but much less intense than the incredibly strong smell of the regular Jax.
From the package: “MultiGrain Jax are a delightful choice for healthier snacking. With 5 grams of whole grains per srtving and coated in a special blend of all natural cheddar cheese, everyone will love the multigrain goodness and delicious, cheesy crunch inside every bag.”
