Taste test: Our introduction to the Jumbo Snax line was the Froot Loops version, which kept the concept simple — they were just larger Froot Loops. It wasn't so simple with this Corn Pops version.
Besides being bigger, what did they change? 1) They added an a caramel flavor that wasn't in the original cereal. 2) They kept the "Pops" part of the cereal name, but these weren't even popped! Nope, these were just formed into (remotely) Corn Pops-like shapes from corn meal, hence the Crunch part of the name. 3) I suppose you could say that they were bigger than Corn Pops, even if they were something else entirely, so "Jumbo" could make sense by a real stratch, but really the sizes and even the shapes varied a whole lot from one piece to the next.
The sizes of the pieces were generally in the same range as cheese balls, with a pale yellow color and lots of divots on the sufaces. I crunched in to find a strong crunch and a good taste, sweet and mildly caramel-like, but definitely a different feel and taste than Corn Pops cereal. Not a standout for taste or texture — get Shearer's Caramel Corn Puffs for that — but good enough for a quick sweet snack if you need one.
Just to make portion size more confusing than ever, Kellogg's had to introduce some new units with the Jumbo Snax line. The government-mandated Nutrition facts said that there were "About 4 servings per container" and gave the usual detailed statistics about each serving, but the marketing copy declared that there were "12 handfuls" in the bag.
