Taste test: When I spotted this bar, the very idea of a Tabasco Chocolate bar had me sold. We've previously reviewed Tabasco-flavored popcorn, rippled potato chips, kettle-cooked potato chips and Slim Jims, but this was the first time we've seen the famous hot sauce in a candy bar.
I opened the wrapper to find that there was more to be impressed about here than just the thought of hot sauce in a chocolate bar. The bar took an unusual shape — it consisted of four pizza wedge-shaped sections, rotated two different ways and conjoined to form the bar, with the combined shape having straight edges but curved ends. A very impressive look. Each section had some concentric circular markings, but nothing resembling a Tabasco logo. (This is the first chocolate bar from The Chocolate Traveler that I've reviewed, but some Googling revealed that the wedge shapes are typical of the chocolates from that company. As cool as the shape was, it was disappointing that they took the trouble to license the Tabasco name for this product but did not incorporate anything Tabasco into the look of the bar.)
The sections broke off easily enough, and although the bar looked fairly small, it was reasonably thick. I bit in to find that the initial taste was all dark chocolate, and it was pretty good. The Tabasco heat arrived in the aftertaste, and it was fairly hot. If the bar hadn't been branded as Tabasco, I would still have noticed the heat, but I doubt that I could have placed it as being specifically Tabasco. Still, heat and chocolate made for a nice combination!
