Taste test: These red licorice sticks had a twisted spiral shape, with a hollow center.
The ends were pinched shut, so you couldn't see the hollow center until after biting in. You might not think that licorice would be such a provincial thing, but almost none of our Boston-area tasters had ever heard of Red Vines (but everyone knew what Twizzlers are) when we showed them these. The taste was OK, but nobody seemed completely thrilled. Compared with the very plasticy texture of Twizzlers, these seemed less plasticy and more rubbery.
