Taste test: This snack was purchased as part of my George Lucas Diet, and when I saw the Galaxy Mix name, I figured there would be special flavors themed on Star Wars things — along the lines of Jedi Jackfruit, Luke Lemon, Anakin Apple and C-3POatmeal.

But when I checked the flavor/color key on the back of the bag, that wasn't the case at all. All of the flavor names began with "Sparkling" followed by Berry Blue, Blueberry, Grape Soda, Green Apple, Island Punch, Sour Apple and Wild Blackberry. (Evidently, in a galaxy far, far away, Blueberry and Berry Blue are not the same thing.)

They didn't really explain what they meant by sparkling, but my best guess was that they were going to be like Pop Rocks (and we've already reviewed a Star Wars-themed Pop Rocks knockoff). My second best guess was that they were just referring to the shiny, slightly metallic-looking exteriors of the jelly beans. But that seemed unlikely, because they weren't much more sparking than your typical Jelly Belly beans.

Sometimes you just need to go with your second instinct. I tried several of the beans, and they were definitely not like Pop Rocks, so the Sparkling flavors referred just to the look of the beans' exteriors. And really, they didn't sparkle much at all.

The beans were pretty good, with no "avoid this one" flavors, but no major standout either.

Smell test: Some grape when I first opened the bag, but after that, just a weak fruit smell.

From the package: “A fat free food • Gluten free” ... “Peanut free • 4 calories per bean”
