Taste test: Last time we heard from Hershey's on the M&M's competition front, they brought out Kissables, a line of chocolates shaped like Hershey's Kisses but with colorful candy shells like M&M's. Those seem to have disappeared from the market, and now they're pushing an M&M's-shaped product with "no candy shell - no mess" — which is kind of an odd way to market these, because the candy shell that they've gotten rid of prevented the mess, didn't cause it. So "no candy shell - still no mess" might be more understandable.
Anyway, I opened the bag to find that the Drops had the same shape as M&M's but were quite a bit bigger — more than twice the volume — and were all colored in Hershey's brown, with a shiny exterior and featuring a small gray Hershey's logo printed onto each one. They tasted just like a Hershey bar. To put the "no mess" claim to the test, I held one a Drop in the palm of my hand for a few minutes to see if it would melt. The glossy suface did stick slightly to my hand, but it didn't appear to leave any mess behind, and I didn't taste any chocolate when I licked that spot, so it would appear that the "no mess" claim holds true.
