Indians at Chain of Lakes ParkMore Florida Spring Training Stadiums Location: Winter Haven Our thoughts: This is one of the older Spring Training ballparks, home of the Cleveland Indians through the 2008 season, until the Indians switched from the Grapefruit League to the Cactus League, relocating to Goodyear Ballpark in Arizona. Before the Indians, Chain of Lakes was home to the Red Sox (until they moved to Fort Myers in 1993). Despite the park's age, it was a nice place to watch a game. The bullpens were right on the field, and the players were very accommodating with fans along the 3rd base line seeking autographs. When I attended an Indians-Tigers game in 2008, ticket prices are reasonable. I bought the cheapest lawn ticket that I could and then took a first-row seat right behind home plate. (There is a separate entrance that I was supposed to use for the lawn seats, but the ushers didn't seem to care.) Despite being sort of in the middle of nowhere, Winter Haven really wasn't a very long drive from the Orlando area. I didn't hit much traffic or have trouble with parking. In Winter Haven, you definitely don't get the throngs of tourists or traffic that happens near Disney. Tip: They sell Dairy Queen ice cream treats at one of the concession stands behind home plate.
