Fremont Street Experience (Las Vegas)Location: Fremont Street Our thoughts: Before billion-dollar mega resorts stole the limelight in Vegas, the big action was Fremont Street, at casinos such as Binion's Horseshoe, The Four Queens, Golden Nugget and more. The casinos lost a lot of traffic to their bigger brothers down the Strip until Fremont Street revitalized itself, closing off blocks to cars, adding thousands of light bulbs to the ceiling overhanging the area and throwing up themed light shows every hour. Visitors can try their luck in the casinos or peruse the souvenir kiosks, bands and street entertainers that line the middle of the streets. Fremont Street's worth the trip for several reasons. First, there's the gambling. To draw tourist dollars, many of the Fremont Street casinos offer low-minimum tables, allowing you to learn a new game without fear of breaking the bank or letting you stretch your bankroll further with your favorite game. Next, there's the light shows. Once you've seen one, you've seen them all, but it's fun to enjoy the over-the-top-ness of the area. And, finally, the light show and people watching are free. Tip: Stick to the Fremont Street area. Neighborhoods bordering Fremont Street are sketchy.
