Masquerade in the Sky (Las Vegas)Location: Rio Hotel Our thoughts: If you ever find yourself laughing at the corniness of the Masqerade in the Sky show at the Rio, just remember that you didn't pay anything in order to see it (unless you take a cab over to the Rio just to see the show). In New England there is a furniture store (Jordan's) that has a Mardis Gras theme to it, and every so often there is a show in which there's a fake parade, lots of jazz music and beads, beads, beads. The Rio show reminded us of that, only on a much larger scale. There are floats in this parade, although the floats are connected to the ceiling (in addition to the PG-13 go-go dancers in cages that drop out of the ceiling). The floats ride around on a track, and if you are lucky (or unlucky) enough, you can get picked out of the crowd to ride in one of these (most times we saw people in the floats, they didn't seem that overjoyed to be riding). In addition to the floats, the show includes clowns and magicians wandering through the slot machines and walkways, entertaining the tourists who have stopped plugging quarters into the machines to watch the free show. The highlight of the show is on the stage, where several male and female dancers perform routines and lip-synch along to wedding-party music, such as "Hot, Hot, Hot" and "Livin' La Vida Loca". The dancers do so very energetically, as if this is the best job they've ever had. But remember, this is a free show, so it's tough to be too critical. Tip: Go to the second level to get the best view of all the different aspects of the show.
