Our thoughts: The Monte Carlo Resort and Casino is like the middle child of Vegas resorts -- often ignored because of its flashier (Bellagio, New York New York) or famous (Caesar's Palace, MGM Grand) neighbors. Because of this, the rates at the hotel are often lower than some other resorts and you can find a good deal (during a recent week we got rates of $95 per night, and this was during a convention week).

At first we were very impressed with the hotel and its amenities. We had a very comfortable bed and slept well each night, something that can't be said for a lot of Vegas hotels. We had high-speed Internet access ($10.99 per 24-hours, a bit steep but not outrageous), a good bathroom (giant bottles of shampoo and conditioner were appreciated), and a decent view.

But then we found some irksome features that knocked some points off. The towels provided were sub-par (scratchy and some with stains/holes), and we were unimpressed with the housekeeping quality (they cleaned the room OK but didn't really tidy up as much as other places). The walls are also paper-thin, several colleagues commented about being able to hear their neighbors during the night (and Vegas being Vegas, the neighbors weren't having a Bible study).

We didn't play in the casino, it seemed to be wall-to-wall slot machines and was hard to find your way around (more difficult than a typical casino).

Still, the staff was friendly enough and we didn't have any major problems, so if the price is good you still can't beat the location (Northward you can take a tram to Bellagio and skip the lower-class neighbors between the two casinos, or walk easily to New York-New York and southward).
