Treasure Island (or TI) (Las Vegas)

More Las Vegas Hotels

Location: 3300 S. Las Vegas Blvd.

Our thoughts: One of the biggest recent changes in Las Vegas concerns Treasure Island changing its motif from a more kid-themed pirate hotel to something that involves more adult fare (the joke amongst us is they should rename the hotel T&A). Gone are the cute pirate decorations and other themes, replaced with shows like the Sirens of TI and a new nightclub (Tangerine) that you can only get into if you're really cool.

I've stayed here when the hotel was simply Treasure Island and now that it's TI, and thankfully the rooms haven't changed that much. The basic rooms are comfortably sized, enough room to walk around in and get your work done (high-speed Interweb service was recently added) if you're there on business. We've also spent time here when the room rates were reasonable, around the $100 per night variety.

The casino is pretty straight-forward, with enough table games to keep you interested and plenty of slot machines with different prices to keep you happy. There's a bar in the middle of the casino floor (near the Terrace Cafe) that is always crowded, if you like drinking close enough to the casino action. The casino has a range of decent restaurants (Terrace Cafe, and the Ben & Jerry's) and expensive restaurants (Steak House, Francesco's) to keep you interested from checking out another hotel or casino. If you like the Cirque du Soleil, this is the home for Mystere, one of the original Cirque du Soleil shows in Vegas. I've heard rumors that they're going to go topless soon (if not already) to support the more "adult" theme of the hotel.

This casino is also the location of my favorite card dealer, so if you're in Vegas when I am, you will likely find me here.

Tip: Skip the Sirens show.
