New York New York Hotel & Casino (Las Vegas)Location: 3790 Las Vegas Blvd. South Our thoughts: The New York New York Hotel & Casino really takes the New York realism thing to its extreme. The exterior of the hotel is really cool to look at with replicas of the Statue of Liberty and the Empire State Building, it really does look like the New York skyline. Unfortunately, the hotel rooms are exactly like a New York hotel room tiny and overpriced. The architecture of the hotel floors are wacky, too, instead of a long hallway leading from the elevator to your room, you have to take several 90-degree turns at time in order to find your room. On one visit, the electronic key didn't even work, which mean we had to walk all the way back to the front desk for a replacement key. Ugh. The second time I stayed, they were offering small per-night upgrades to get boosted to a "bigger" room, which I took advantage of. The upgrade consisted, seriously, of about five extra feet of space inside the room. If the hotel clerk at check-in asks you, just say no to this "upgrade." The inside of the casino has a New York feel to it, with crowded casino tables and not a lot of walkways. On the plus side, the hotel is the location for the Manhattan Express roller coaster, and the ESPNZone, so we usually skip all the casino stuff and head for one of those attractions. They have a few decent restaurants there (Italian and steak houses), and a food court serves New York pizza and other such food that is less expensive. Tip: A walkway connects to the MGM Grand and Excalibur, although you have to walk through a brief shopping area inside the hotel.
