Kona Village Resort Luau (Hawaii's Big Island)

More Hawaii's Big Island Activities

Location: Ka'upulehu Drive, Kona

Our thoughts: When in Rome... You really can't go to Hawaii without hitting a luau, so we attended the weekly Friday night fete at the Kona Village Resort, a luau recommended by a Big Island guide book that produced nary a bad idea - until the luau, that is. Kona Village's luau has been operating every Friday night for more than 25 years, so we thought it would be solid.

The food was a must-miss. The food was kind of like a Hawaiian cafeteria line - nothing special or especially great. Roasted pig may sound like a good idea when you're talking about it, but the smell really turned us off. We might be the only people who have gone to a luau and opted for the turkey.

The singing, dancing and storytelling, on the other hand, were excellent. We'd still recommend you hit a luau, but if you're looking for great food, give this a pass.

Tip: Find another luau if you're a foodie
