Super Bowl SnacksBy Keith Shaw Secretary of Snacks Plan your party with these Snacker Bowl Sunday tipsThe Super Bowl is the biggest game of the year, and it's also the biggest snacking event of the year. The Patriots and Eagles are busy planning for the game, and you should be too — if you don't, you could end up with a disaster on your hands. Your snack choices can make or break the day and night — one small slip-up (like getting anything labeled low-fat, low-carb or sugar-free) can be like Scott Norwood going wide right against the Giants.
Fortunately, we here at Taquitos.net want to help. We've assembled some tips that will make your Super Bowl Snacking Event (or "Snacker Bowl" as we like to call it) more exciting than 10 Super Bowls.
1) Loosen your belt. Your new year's resolution to lose weight went well. You should be congratulated. Super Bowl Sunday is the day it ends. Don't even think about serving vegetables unless there's a big bowl of Ranch dressing to go along with it.
2) Make a statement. It's time to be bold — that means no boring flavors or national brand names. If it has the word Doritos, Ruffles, Lay's or Fritos on the bag, save it for the rest of the week. This is the time to try a unique local brand, or a flavor that you've never heard of before.
3) Follow the theme. Snacks should reflect the two teams playing in the game. For New England, that means plenty of Cape Cod, State Line or Wachusett chips should be on hand. If you can find some Wachusett Ketchup Chips, by all means throw those in a bowl. Fans up in Maine should be able to snag some Humpty Dumpty Pickle Chips. For Philly fans, make sure you grab some Herr's Smokey BBQ chips. Since cheesesteaks are so popular in Philadelphia, you should also grab some Herr's Steak chips and a couple of Cheese-flavored snacks.
4) Depth matters. Just like a team can't rely on only their offense, you can't rely on just one snack. Make sure you have plenty of potato chips, but you are also going to need some cheese puffs, popcorn (flavored popcorn in a bag, not microwave popcorn), and tortilla chips (again, no Doritos).
5) Step away from the oven. Cooking is definitely out. The only thing that you're allowed to cook is the nacho cheese sauce that you need to pour over your tortilla chips. If it involves more than three steps, you're working too hard.
So go out and have a great Snacker Bowl Sunday! |
