Taste: I'm increasingly baffled by the Mister Salty brand. A few years back, snackers were complaining on the chip talk board that they couldn't find Mister Salty in stores. I can't imagine why Nabisco would abandon such a great name. Since then I've found just a few Mister Salty products, but I'm not even sure what makes a pretzel a Mister Salty pretzel — the three kinds I've eaten had three different shapes. (Besides the round shape of these, the other two were the knotted Mister Salty Pretzel Twists and Mister Salty Pretzels 'n Cheez sticks.) This time, they really blew it. They took the (somewhat) well-known Mister Salty brand and burned away any brand equity by omitting the Mister Salty mascot featured on the other two.
Marketing issues aside, I liked these a lot, as the small round pretzels had a tasty chocolate coating and enough salt that I could definitely taste a mix of sweet and salty. On any given bite, the salt level seemed to vary, as the flavor went back and forth depending on whether any salt was buried under the chocolate on any given bite. The sensation of the varying flavor was pretty cool. Each of the six 100-calorie packs in this box had enough pretzels for a good-size snack.
